Dubai Diaries: The Palm Jumeirah & The JBR

The palm is an artificial island shaped in a form of a palm tree (some creative naming!!) with crescent on its top.
The Palm Jumeirah is home to many luxurious hotels, Residential Villas & Entertainment centers. The promenade at The Palm is breathtaking. Go here if you want to witness the luxurious lives of the Sheikhs! The branches of the Palm have  beautiful bungalows owned by famous celebs like Tom Cruise & Shah Rukh Khan. Also the famous 5 star hotel- the Atlantis is located at the tip of the palm. If your are a health conscious traveler, this is the place for your morning jogs !
The best and cheapest way to enjoy the Palm is to board the Palm Monorail. This monorail runs along the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah connecting the Gateway Station at the entry point to the Atlantis at the far end. The monorail & Dubai Metro are connected by a tram service. You can also hire a cab to go around this place but that is obviously a little costly. We were lucky enough to get a ride in our friend's Lexus ;)



JBR is a 15-20 mins drive from The Palm. It is nearly a 2 km long stretch (where also you can jog, alas!) situated at the Dubai Marina Beach with numerous restaurants & stand alone shopping stores. After our ride to the palm we stopped at PF Changs and had their signature Cocktail Dynamite Shrimps for Lunch. 
I would also highly recommend you to try Pappa Roti- Freshly baked mild sweet buns with butter melting within. Try out Wagamamas for South Asian Food & Bu-Qutair for fresh & yummy fish dishes on JBR. 
Just next to Pappa Roti is a standalone boutique of Victoria Secrets where I got hold of some really great deals & bought 5 Body Mists as souvenirs for our families.

It was going to be my friend’s birthday by midnight & so we all got dressed up & left around 8 p.m. to a Pub called The Loca on Jumeirah Beach Road near Yatch Club. The Loca is a Mexican club that allows kids (surprise surprise!) and is famous for its fresh Avacado Guacamole. So the waitress will come with a wooden table with a ripe Avacado & prepare the guacamole in front of you with as per your taste & garnishes. This place had great music, drinks & crowd and we partied till midnight. HRC, Belgian Beer Café, The Irish Village (again allows kids till 10 pm.) are some other famous pubs on this road.
Only problem with the Pubs is that there is no place for breast feeding, so please go prepared accordingly if you are still nursing.

Every summer or winter vacations, my Mom & Dad would plan a trip to some place new & thankfully it wasn’t a pilgrimage (surprised right?!). They took us to almost all the hill stations of North India (Kullu, Manali, Simla, Nainital, Massouri, Kashmir & few more I guess), to the famous cities of Western India- Mumbai & Goa (yes I am the loser who went Goa with parents 😑). Sikkim Stories: Tashi View Point

Baghthang Waterfalls We stopped at this small but beautiful Baghthang waterfall from where we could enjoy the view of the mountains in the front having a sip of hot tea & corn. My sister and I did a short Zip line here for just 100 bucks. Then we moved to the Tashi View Point from where you get  mesmerizing  view of the gigantic mountains surrounding Gangtok. Also if the weather is clear you would get to see Mount Kanchengunja (third highest peak in the world). The restaurants here give you a beautiful view of the valley & hills which you can enjoy having hot aloo parathas & tea. Food was not an issue for Viraaj as we easily got Noodles, Rice & Parathas everywhere. My younger sister at Tashi View Point Tip: The local weather of Gangtok in October was very pleasant with slight traces of rains, so do carry one jacket daily as the evenings tend to get a little cold.

Sikkim Stories: Journey to Lachung- North Sikkim

The road journey from Gangtok to Lachung is something that is difficult to be described in words. Big green mountains along the sparkling blue Teesta river & no trace of pollution! You seriously get those “Highway movie” vibes when you travel through this magical landscape. On the way you get to witness eye-catching waterfalls like Seven Sister Waterfalls, The Twin waterfalls, The Naga waterfalls, The Bhima & the Amitabh Bachhan falls (because of their tall height), which adds to the charm of the journey. The ride from Gangtok to Lachung takes good 7 hours (yes too long), so start your day on time.  Due to Lachung's proximity to China and the military presence, entry to North Sikkim is only possible on a guided tour, and a travel permit must be organised in Gangtok  1-2 days prior to travel.
